Mohawk PureTech: Let’s Talk About Mohawk’s New Resilient Line
We know that choosing a new floor is one of the most significant financial investments you’ll make for your home or business. It has to look beautiful, reflect your personal style, and most importantly, it has to be done right.
Lately, our showroom has been buzzing with questions about a brand-new alternative to luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and laminate: Mohawk PureTech.
If you’ve been researching waterproof flooring online, you have likely run across this name. But what actually is it? Is it vinyl? Is it laminate? And does it live up to the massive industry hype?
As your personal flooring resource, we don’t believe in selling products we can’t stand behind. We previewed PureTech, evaluated its real-world performance, and brought it into our warehouse in bulk so we can pass optimal pricing down to you.

What is Mohawk PureTech?
Mohawk PureTech is technically classified as a “resilient PVC-free flooring”. If you look at it under a microscope, it sits perfectly in the sweet spot between premium laminate and traditional luxury vinyl plank.
The defining difference is what’s inside. Traditional vinyl planks are made using polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastics. PureTech completely ditches the PVC. Instead, it is engineered with a renewable polymer core that is made of 80% organic, plant-based materials, combining with other layers to create a floor that features 70% total recycled content.
The Composition of Mohawk PureTech
- SURFACE LAYER: 3x More Scratch Resistant than LVT
- DESIGN LAYER: Photorealistic Wood (Signature Tech)
- CORE LAYER: PVC-Free Renewable Polymer (80% Organic)
- BACKING: Integrated 2mm Sound-Dampening Pad
- CORE LAYER: PVC-Free Renewable Polymer (80% Organic)
- DESIGN LAYER: Photorealistic Wood (Signature Tech)
The Core Benefits of Mohawk PureTech Flooring: Why It Caught Our Eye
Unlike big-box stores where you get lost in aisles of confusing, untested product lines, our team takes pride in selecting floors that pass the highest tests of durability. PureTech hits three major high-value markers:
Hardwood Realism (GenuEdge® & Signature™ Technology)
The number one complaint about standard vinyl planks is that they can sometimes look and feel a bit plastic. Mohawk solved this by applying their top-tier Signature™ Technology and GenuEdge® bevels to the PureTech line.
The texture is “embossed-in-register,” meaning the physical grain pattern you feel matches the visual knot or swirl you see perfectly. Furthermore, instead of a stark, painted edge where the planks meet, the visual design actually “rolls over” the bevel. When it’s installed across a large room, even our most seasoned flooring installers have to look twice to realize it isn’t solid hardwood.
Scratch Resistance
If you have big dogs, rowdy kids, or heavy foot traffic, scratch resistance is non-negotiable. Traditional LVP relies on a clear plastic wear layer that can dull or scratch over time under heavy claw pressure.
PureTech doesn’t use a standard plastic wear layer. It features a unique, force-resistant finish that delivers three times the scratch resistance of traditional luxury vinyl. It is so robust that Mohawk backs it with a dedicated 15-Year Pet Scratch Warranty (and a Lifetime warranty on their Plus and Premier tiers).
The WetProtect® Guarantee
Many floors claim to be waterproof, but as we always tell our clients, standard vinyl planks are usually only waterproof from top-surface spills—if water seeps down through the joints, it can ruin your subfloor.
PureTech features Mohawk’s patented WetProtect® technology. It utilizes a precision Uniclic® locking system that creates completely water-tight joints. Water physically cannot seep between the seams, which is why it comes with a rare Lifetime Surface & Subfloor Waterproof Warranty.
Know Before You Go
The Subfloor Requirement: Because PureTech features a highly rigid polymer core, it is incredibly stable and won’t expand or contract wildly with Canadian climate shifts. However, that rigidity means your subfloor must be properly prepped, flat, and level before installation. If there are massive dips in your concrete or plywood substrate, the joints can experience undue stress over time.
Underfoot Sound: It features an attached 2mm acoustic pad which helps soften impact noise, but because the core is dense and solid, it will have a slightly brighter, higher-pitched sound when walked on with hard shoes compared to soft, flexible glue-down vinyl.
PureTech Select vs. PureTech Plus
Mohawk offers this line in a few distinct tiers to accommodate different project scopes and budgets. Because we anticipate what our customers need, we stock both primary collections:
| Feature | PureTech Select | PureTech Plus |
| Total Thickness | Substantial 10mm profile (including pad) | Heavy-duty 10mm profile with 22-mil wear equivalent |
| Edge Detail | Pressed Bevel / GenuEdge® | Premium GenuEdge® Bevel |
| Pet Protection | 15-Year Pet Scratch Warranty | Lifetime All Pet Gold™ Warranty |
| Water Protection | Lifetime WetProtect® (Surface & Subfloor) | Lifetime WetProtect® (Surface & Subfloor) |
